Ye Zhi, Violin

Ye Zhi started learning to play the violin at the age of 5. She was the 2nd runner up for the Guang Dong Province violin competition (Senior category, Guang Dong, China) in 1995. Under the tutelage of Singapore Symphony Orchestra’s violinist Mr. Foo Say Ming, she was awarded the Fellowship from Trinity College London (FTCL) in violin performance.

An active member of Singapore-based string orchestra re: mix, Zhi also performs with various orchestras, including the Singapore Lyric Opera Orchestra and The Philharmonic Orchestra. She has been on concert tours to the United Kingdom, Thailand, Indonesia, and Malaysia with re: mix, Singapore National Youth Orchestra and National University of Singapore Symphony Orchestra. Together with violinist Gerard Chia, Zhi performed Bach’s concerto for two violins with the Nanyang Technological University (NTU) String Orchestra. She also performed in ‘Phantom of the Opera’ during its Singapore seasons in 2007 and 2013. Zhi has recorded for a few films/TV series, with the most recent one being Eric Khoo’s ‘Tatsumi’. 

Zhi is also passionate about teaching. She has been an instructor with NTU String Orchestra since 2005. During which, she was awarded the Cultural Award (Distinction) in 2007 and 2008 from the NTU Cultural Activities Club. Together with fellow violin teacher Ms. Connie Lau, she has been organising the concert series ‘A String Gaderian’ for young violinists since 2006.

Besides making music, Zhi also enjoys traveling and good food.
