Xavier is a versatile musician who started learning piano and electone at the age of 7. Since young, he has performed at various Yamaha showcases, played percussion in his primary school brass band for SYF 2007 (clinching a Silver Award), as well as participated in the Young Composer’s Concert 2009 held in KL, Malaysia as an accompanying pianist.
He attained an Associate of the London College of Music (ALCM) in classical piano in 2009 but have since moved towards arranging and performing contemporary pop tunes for solo piano. Notably, Xavier’s covers and arrangements on YouTube have garnered over 250,000 combined views.
Currently a BA Music (Jazz Performance) student at LASALLE College of The Arts, Xavier’s primary interests have now shifted towards learning the language of jazz, blues, funk and soul. He has performed at International Jazz Day 2017 @ Kult Kafe, Jazz @ Red Dot showcase 2017 @ Botanic Gardens and other smaller scale events. He is also the keyboardist for local post-rock band Arkentree and is currently working on their EP slated to launch late-2017.
As an educator, he is interested in teaching the art of improvisation and playing by ear. He believes in bridging the gap between the academic study of music theory and practical performance, arrangement and composition. He currently teaches Pop Piano at a music school as well as privately.
