Mervin Wong is one of a handful of youths in Singapore who have decided to pursue his passion of performing music. He has been playing the viola since 2010 under the tutelage of Lionel Tan of the T’ang Quartet.
Mervin has a Diploma in Music Performance (Viola) from the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts. He has collaborated and played with a variety of groups in Singapore: Artsylum Quartet, Ding Yi Music Company, Re:Mix, The Philharmonic Orchestra, Singapore Lyric Opera Orchestra, as well as The Young Musicians Fund Orchestra.
Mervin’s performance of York Bowen’s Phantasy Op. 54 at the 4th Singapore Performer’s Festival earned him the Platinum Award. He was also shortlisted for the bow prize of the solo viola category. Mervin is currently a student of the Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music (National University of Singapore) and is part of The Ensemble Dimension project, mentored by the T’ang Quartet.
