Jian Yang, viola
Jian Yang started learning the violin since the age of 7, and holds a Diploma in Violin Performance from the Associated Board of the Royal School of Music (ABRSM). He then picked up the viola at the age of 18, and performed in a string quartet as his first performance on the viola with only 3 weeks of experience. 2 years later, he obtained a Distinction for ABRSM Grade 8 Viola.
As a violinist and a violist, Jian Yang has had numerous experiences, having been part of the award-winning Raffles Institution String Ensemble. In his spare time, Jian Yang performs with many orchestras in Singapore, having performed for the NUS Symphony Orchestra as well as The Philharmonic Orchestra, amongst many. Jian Yang also has experience with smaller ensembles, having played for Dance Ensemble Singapore’s Butterfly Dreams in 2009.
Jian Yang believes in breaking down the mindset that “classical music equals hard-to-understand” and seeks to reach out to as many people as possible, absorbing from others in the process and giving out his best to everyone who listens, and to put his heart and soul into music-making through Vetta Quartet.
