Duana, violin

Duana is an academic scholar with a keen interest in literature of the Renaissance and the seventeenth and eighteenth-centuries, narrative structures, linguistics, art, verse, and the classics, among others.

Duana is also an accomplished violinist, soloist, chamber musician, and instrumentalist.

An Instrumental Awards Holder at the University of Cambridge, she was a violinist and a chamber music scholar, led chamber music groups, and also the Cambridge University Symphony Orchestra and various college orchestras.

As a chamber music scholar and solo recitalist in the University chamber music circles, Duana was coached by various members of the Endellion and Amadeus Quartets respectively, and was actively commissioned to perform within the University.

Duana has performed and led quartets and trios with members of the Raffles Junior College Chamber Ensemble and Music Elective Programme, piano quartets and duos with members of the University of Cambridge Instrumental Awards Programme, and also as a pianist for music students, instrumentalists, and friends in various public and private concerts and arenas respectively.

As a soloist, chamber musician, and orchestra member, Duana has been profiled in music documentaries and recorded for soundtracks. She won her first music competition at the age of 8. When she was 14, she performed as a soloist with the Singapore Symphony Orchestra. She has also performed as a soloist with chamber orchestras and ensembles across the island and served as a leader in international string orchestras overseas and for prizewinning ensembles in music festivals and camps.

A three-time top violin prizewinner at the National Piano and Violin Competitions, Duana also holds three diplomas in both violin and piano performance, including an LRSM from the Royal Schools of Music in violin performance which she earned at the age of 19.

She was also concertmaster, first violinist, and concerto-soloist with the Raffles Junior College Chamber Ensemble and various Raffles chamber music groups. Duana was also the concertmaster of and featured as a soloist with the Singapore National Youth Orchestra’s String Ensemble. She was also Principal Violinist of the Singapore National Youth Orchestra.

Duana also holds the National Arts Council-Shell Arts Scholarship, the nation’s highest honor for scholarship in music and the arts. She holds an MA in English Literature and Language from the University of Cambridge, and is an art writer, researcher and musician.
